There's no wors on the menu but Restaurant Jan is tantalising French taste buds. The South African restaurant in Nice, France, has been awarded a Michelin star, its first, in the 2016 French Guide Michelin, one of the world's most prestigious restaurant guides.Proprietor-chef Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen is the first South African to receive the accolade.Many have regarded the Michelin Guide awards as the Oscars of the culinary industry, recognising consistency and excellence in food and service.Van der Westhuizen has managed to incorporate some South African elements in his fine-dining menu. This week, the menu boasts mosbolletjies, biltong and desert salt from the Kalahari.He is about to release his second book, A Breath of French Air. His 2013 cookbook, The French Affair, won the Gourmand World Cookbook award in the South African category of the best French cuisine cookbook.His latest book will be launched in South Africa next month...
