Bar Code: A plumber's wet dream

03 February 2016 - 02:37 By Yolisa Mkele

The brand spanking new bar at Pizza e Vino in Rosebank is decked out in all the burnished steel pipe fittings of a hipster plumber's dream. Ideally I'd steer clear of franchise restaurants when looking for a suitable watering hole, but, let's face it, often the franchise is more convenient. This bar also has the added benefit of being a rather nice space to temporarily inhabit. The Pizza e Vino has an air of casual civility about it - it's the kind of place you could bring a love interest for lubrication or have a boozy lunch on the company's dime. There are a number of suitably artisanal beers available on tap including one, Witch Craft Brew, that's been created specifically for Pizza e Vino.Their selection of shots feature the kind of deceptive deliciousness that can quickly take an afternoon tipple from tame to Marquis de Sade.Pizza e Vino is a pleasant surprise. It jumps on the artisanal bandwagon a little but that is okay. We have become used to that and as such derive a sense of hip satisfaction from being able to sit in a bar that is aesthetically alluring without requiring an advanced degree in architecture to understand. The lowdownWHEN TO GO? During a lunch break you have no intention of returning from.AURA OF RESPECTABILITY? Strong enough for your mother-in-law to spot you and an illicit lover sharing a drink and think it was a casual business drink.WHO TO GO WITH? Your boss, a friend, a weekend special incognito.WHAT TO DRINK? The Flying Dutchman accompanied by the coffee and chocolate tequila concoction.HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED? How strong is your liver and how important is it that you not arrive at work hung over?..
