Menswear Week: Look out for the Big Five

Showcasing their Autumn Winter 2016 collections at the South African Menswear Week in Cape Town this week, African luxury menswear brands from South Africa to Tanzania will put their best foot (wear) forward with showcases of creative flair. Rea Khoabane chose the five African luxury menswear brands to look out for on the catwalk. IMPRINT BY MZUKISI MBANE (South Africa)Born and raised in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, Mzukisi Mbane of the label Imprint will present a collection inspired by a young woman whose message of ''Harbouring Hope", has become the title of the range.ABRANTI THEGENTLEMAN (Ghana)Abranti TheGentleman is associated with quality workmanship and attention to detail. The range is created by Oheneba Yaw Boamah to target people with a passion for African culture. African prints abound, embellishing casual shirts, pants, shorts, bowties and boxers.MARTIN KADINDA (Tanzania)Martin Kadinda opened the menswear week last night with a collection called ''Kadinda's". He showcased the richness of Tanzanian resources.TOKYO JAMES (Nigeria)Tokyo James has worked with international design houses including Issey Miyake, Puma and Black Label. He has also been the director of the digital publication Rough UK. His brand is for modern men who want simplicity with the emphasis on traditional techniques and clean lines.KIDD HUNTA BY TAF THE TAYLOR (Zimbabwe)The closing show, Kidd Hunta by Taf The Taylor, is one of the most anticipated shows of the week. Designer Tafadzwa says his label draws from a strong African past and runs courageously into the future. Last year he showcased a collection inspired by the xenophobic attacks in South Africa...
