Love Review: Honest opinions from the ones who walked away

08 February 2016 - 02:10 By Azizzar Mosupi, Yolisa Mkele and Andrea Nagel

Valentine's Day is just around the corner so three Times staffers decided to look back on their past love lives and ask the people who know them best, their exes, to review them:A review of AZIZZAR MOSUPI by her ex-boyfriendI hope you asked me to write this because I hold a special place in your heart, but more likely it's the other way around. I won't be brutal, but honestly, I don't need to be.We were friends who spoke constantly before we started dating and my initial reason for getting closer to you was that you're hot.You were more mature than me back then (but less mature than you thought). I loved that you liked obscure Wu-Tang songs - you had some odd interests. After we broke up you said I gave horrible hugs (I know now it's true). Your hugs really weren't that great either (and now the whole world knows).A review of YOLISA MKELE by his ex-girlfriendDuring a communications course I learned to give feedback in sandwich form - a good comment, then a bad comment and then another good comment - to soften the blow. That's the approach I'll take for this ''review" of our relationship. We dated twice, so I'll start with the first time although we had more adult fun the second time round . It was cute that you ''pre-asked" me out, telling me you were going to, before actually taking the leap. I was a spring chicken, 14, and you were an old man, 17. Round two was a roller-coaster ride. I was older and wiser, but again I fell into your trap. There were wild nights of drinking and I grew up. I have nothing really negative to say but we met at the wrong time of our lives.A review of ANDREA NAGEL by her ex-boyfriendHow can I write this without dropping off the ledge. I swear I saw the spiralling galaxy and flew straight past supernova cassiopeia. You're a very interesting girl - but emotionally, I found you manipulative. I empathised with you over your family struggles and for that I felt I was owed loyalty which sometimes didn't materialise.Your uncle once remarked: ''People who are married don't even have this kind of life together."The man with you will never be short of cool stories and he'll love deeply as will you , but he'll never pin you down. You're restless to say the least. If they bring out a time machine I would do it all again.Because that's living and you're definitely worth it...
