Border game for franchise

Border Cricket Board president Thando Ganda has said the board will be able to stand on its own should the opportunity to host a first-class franchise arise.Cricket SA is reportedly mulling over the option of adding two more franchises to the six created at the end of the 2003-2004 season.East London, Kimberley and Potchefstroom are in the running."Here at Border we have so many good players we've had to release some of the other players because we can't contract everyone who comes through our system."We've got players who are contracted with the Warriors, who would do very well for us. From an on-field perspective, we have the players," he said."Politically and financially, we are stable, though there are challenges we need to deal with like coaching education. That is something we are talking about at the moment."While the formations of the Titans, Cape Cobras, Highveld Lions and the Dolphins went smoothly, the Knights, formerly the Diamond Eagles, and the Warriors were fraught with regional troubles.Ganda is aware of the impact Border's breakaway could have on the Warriors franchise but he feels there are enough resources to cope, especially at a time when the Warriors and the Cobras are without title sponsors...
