Shark attacks on the rise

The International Shark Attack File at the Florida Museum of Natural History recorded 98 unprovoked shark attacks worldwide, breaking the previous record of 88 in 2000 by 10. Six people were killed in those attacks.North America had the most unprovoked shark attacks with 59, followed by Australia with 18 and South Africa with 8.The South African numbers were far lower than in 1998, when 17 attacks occurred.Shark expert Geremy Cliff of the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board said more and more people were entering the sea for recreational purposes, increasing the number of encounters with the predators...
