British Vogue magazine turns 100 this year and, to celebrate, The National Portrait Gallery in London launches the exhibition Vogue 100 - A Century of Style today. It features 280 prints from the work of famous fashion photographers such as Cecil Beaton, Norman Parkinson, Corinne Day and Mario Testino, who together produced some of the most iconic fashion images of the past century. The images include Peter Lindbergh's famous 1990 ''supermodels" cover and Testino's sex-kitten image of Kate Moss in unlaced boots flashing her underwear from beneath a netting skirt. These are displayed alongside emotive portraits of Princess Diana and Alexander McQueen, both hugely influential in their respective ways on the fashion landscape. The exhibition is assembled in reverse chronological order and goes back to the launch of the fashion bible in 1916, when American publisher Condé Montrose Nast decided to stop shipping the American version of the magazine across the pond and to create a British edition instead.Current editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman described the publication as "a cultural record of our times" and said that she was fascinated to see the change in styles as the decades pass.Leon Max, a Russian oligarch and fashion retail mogul, is sponsoring the exhibition, which runs until May 22. ..
