No to 'no-go' areas in coming poll

Ramaphosa was speaking at the release of the Independent Electoral Commission's 2014 Results Atlas yesterday.The atlas contains statistics and other information about the 2014 elections that will be valuable to political parties in planning for the municipal elections."Although the Results Atlas shows how votes were politically distributed within certain geographies, we must be clear that these concentrations must not be considered immutable," said Ramaphosa."No part of the country should be considered the inalienable political turf of any one party. We cannot tolerate no-go areas."He said elections were not primarily about the fortunes of political parties, but about improving the lives of South Africans.IEC chairman Vuma Mashinini said statistics showed that only 2.5% of people aged between 18 and 19 voted in 2014.Deputy chief electoral officer Sy Mamabolo said at an IEC briefing to parliament's home affairs portfolio committee that the 2016 registration campaign was gaining momentum...
