Mother of all fundraisers

Deadline.com reports that a documentary on rock's zaniest character - composer, performer and activist Frank Zappa, who died in 1993, has become the biggest funded documentary on crowdfunding site Kickstarter's history. Directed by Alex Winter, the film, Who The F*@% Is Frank Zappa, has already raised more than $880000. This beats the previous Kickstarter documentary record, set by a film about Bill Nye, TheScience Guy, which raised $850000.Following his Oscar-nominated performance as blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston is now taking on the role of US President Lyndon B Johnson. The HBO film of All the Way debuts this July. The first trailer can be seen on YouTube.Francois Verster's poignant documentary about the Arab Spring, The Dream of Shahrazad, won best documentary director and best documentary awards at this year's Safta awards and is headed to the Labia in Cape Town from tonight. www.thelabia.co.za..
