Just weeks before the local government elections, the ANC in Gauteng is cleaning house.Yesterday, the party's provincial disciplinary committee said Tshwane regional deputy secretary and member of mayoral committee for roads George Matjila had been expelled for misconduct. The committee found him guilty of masterminding the disruption of a 2014 ANC Youth League regional congress to scupper a faction he considered "hostile".Provincial disciplinary committee chairman Mondli Gungubele said: "There are instances where [ANC] meetings could not take place because of infighting. That behaviour has a negative impact over time on the organisation."The ANC has spoken on this matter a number of times when it speaks about the renewal of the organisation and restoration of its dignity ."Matjila, who has been a party member for over 25 years, was found guilty by the committee on Friday last week.He was granted leave to appeal the judgment within 14 days.Gungubele said Matjila did not extend an official apology to the party for his misconduct.Gungubele said the punishment meted out to Matjila was a clear indication that the ANC would not tolerate any misconduct by its members. He added: "There are a number of problems that the organisation tends to go through. If behaviour like this is allowed, it has got serious implications in the long run."..
