Lockpick: True escapism

20 April 2016 - 02:20 By Yolisa Mkele

You are trapped in a makeshift rebel camp and your captors have presumably gone on their mandated hour-long lunch break. A spy on your side has left a series of infuriatingly cryptic clues to aid your escape and you have 60 minutes before the rebel leader and company come back and feed you to a flaming bear. This is the scenario you and your mates are faced with once you enter the Rebel room at Hashtag Escape, in Norwood, Johannesburg, an adventure puzzle venue in which you must decipher an escape from one of two, soon to be three, themed rooms.Started last November by Stratis Kouvdis and Christopher Tsatsarolakis, players of the game are locked in a room and must figure out how to find the key that leads to their escape, and do so within an hour. What initially sounds rather nerdy ends up being more fun than a Charlie Sheen-themed roller-coaster ride. So next time you have some time to kill, why not get held hostage? For more information visit www.hashtagescape.co.za..
