Taste Test(s): Coming back for seconds

When you think of Mandela Square in Sandton, the words that come to mind are "expensive" and "fancy". But when we stepped into the newly opened Remo's Café Liberta we experienced a more casual ambience. The menu offers an amazing taste of Italy and we indulged in more than we could stomach - the large three-course meals were so tasty that we had to try everything. For starters we had the butternut soup, followed by the beef fillet mamba and Renzo's, which is chicken breast wrapped with bacon and marinated with peppers, chilli, "mama's sauce" and a dash of fresh cream tossed with penne. I loved it.Besides the fact that they offer grilled Italian flatbread served with zucchini or fries, I had fallen in love with their meatballs the week before, so I decided to go back for a full portion.Prices are reasonable and there are daily specials that are as good as the food on the menu, offering you access to a great lunch without feeling short-changed .The furniture is authentic Italian and I was impressed with their stylish lavatory, with its round, bronze basins .Each basin has its own mirror, and there's also a full-length mirror, in front of which I took a selfie. They are generous with women's facilities, providing more rest-rooms for females than for men.It offers many sections to eat in, including a large marble-top bar, but the best spot is the outside section with its European atmosphere. The restaurant pays homage to South African heroes with a black and white painting of Nelson Mandela and photos of famous South Africans on the walls.Liberta means freedom, and at Remo's Café Liberta you are free to enjoy delicious food...
