The music industry has a new sweetheart -hip-hop.Rappers are among the artists who have scored the most nominations in the 22nd SA Music Awards.Leading the pack are Emtee, Riky Rick and FiFi Cooper with nominations in the categories album of the year, artist of the year and newcomer of the year. Both Emtee and Fifi Cooper are signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment while Riky Rick is an independent artist.Speaking to The Times after the nomination announcement in Johannesburg yesterday, Riky Rick said his first album would be his last.He said: "I'm never going to do an album again; I'm just going to do an EP, like shorter albums. I'm independent so I've got to make more music, it's not about the money - money is never an issue. I have too much music in me. I always meant to retire after my first album, now I'm just riding the wave."Riky Rick, whose name is Rikhado Makhado, added that the genre brought the "glitz and glam" to the industry but has only recently received the recognition it deserves.Elements of kwaito, trap and house blended with collaborations with African artists such as Patoranking and Stonebwoy have made hip-hop a vibrant genre. ..
