Must-win clash as Kaizer Chiefs bid to arrest decline

Kaizer Chiefs need to win Wednesday's Premier Soccer League encounter against the University of Pretoria to avoid matching their worst-ever run. Last season's league champions have not won in eight successive games. If they fail to win again, that will lead to turmoil.Chiefs' worst run was nine winless league matches from December 5 2001 to January 16 2002 under Muhsin Ertugral.That run started with a 3-2 home defeat by SuperSport United (then coached by Pitso Mosimane) and saw them lose four more times and draw four before the streak was snapped with a 2-1 win over Manning Rangers.Ironically, this was the same season in which Chiefs won the African Cup Winners, the BP Top Eight and the Coca-Cola Cup in a clean sweep that was dubbed "Operation Vat Alles".But nine matches without a win meant Chiefs finished the season ninth in the league - the only time they have failed to finish in a top eight place.Amakhosi's current malaise has come in three different competitions - the league, African Champions League and Nedbank Cup - stretching back to their victory over SuperSport United in February.They sit fifth on the league log but if they slip any further they might be in danger of missing out on next season's MTN8...
