Teacher 'beat girl with stick'

A teacher at a private school in northern KwaZulu-Natal has been charged with assault after allegedly beating a pupil - with whom he was said to be romantically linked - with a stick on her back in full view of her classmates. The incident took place at the John Wesley Kosi Bay Private School in Manguzi, near the Mozambique-South Africa border, on Thursday last week and has been reported to the police.KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane confirmed yesterday that the 31-year-old teacher had been arrested and charged with assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.He said the complainant, believed to be a Grade 11 pupil, was alleged to have been beaten by the teacher with a stick on her back in class.He appeared in court on Monday and will appear again on May 10.The teacher is alleged to have been involved in a romantic relationship with the pupil and the two are believed to have argued before the alleged assault...
