App that makes drams come true

18 May 2016 - 09:21 By Shelley Seid

Keen to master your malt and distil your drams? Then you need the new app created by local company Whisky Live to give you more than a double tot of information. From region of origin to alcohol by volume, from flavour profiles to tasting notes to pack shots, it's all available within seconds on "whizzky", the country's only whisky app, available on www.whizzky.co.zaWhizzky is also the only app worldwide to offer the function of scanning whisky bottle labels as a search tool."Just scan the label and the information is delivered to your mobile device in seconds," says Whisky Live COO Emily Stockden.Users can also save their favourite whiskies to create an online collection, rate whiskies and compare ratings with other users. The app was developed to fill a gap in the market."We noticed that there was a lack of information available quickly on mobile that was category-wide and not brand-specific," says Stockden. "So Whisky Live partnered with EvolveIT to provide an educational digital platform for all whiskies."Whisky, she adds, is "a passion"." Just like passionate music or sports fans, whisky lovers like to talk about whisky, compare stats and generally fulfil the role of the whisky connoisseur."The app lists 675 whiskies from the most expensive, Macallan M at R5.1-million, to lesser-known gems like the Glenfarclas 60-year-old, which is one of only 360 bottles worldwide, and retails for over R360,000.New whiskies are added daily, says Stockden, mostly by the growing database of users. She says that over the past two months more than 700 labels were submitted to the app."We're currently building a social media aspect that will allow users to share their tasting notes and ratings."..
