Chocolate pear cake

It is rich, yummy and perfect after a light meal. It can be made the day before, but then it is nice to warm it slightly for the chocolate to melt a bit. Best eaten on the day, though.INGREDIENTS250ml (1 cup) butter, melted200g (2 cups) sugar4 large eggs, at room temperature125ml (half-cup) cocoa10ml (2 tsp) vanilla essence185ml (cup) cake flour200g good quality dark chocolate, finely chopped185ml (cup) flaked almonds1 x 425g can pear halves, drainedHandful of Cadbury WhispersGround cinnamon for sprinklingMETHODPreheat the oven to 180°C. Butter or spray a 23cm round cake tin.Mix the butter, sugar, eggs, cocoa, vanilla and flour. Fold in the chocolate and almonds. Mix well and pour into the tin.Arrange pears on top and sprinkle with a little cinnamon. Bake for 40 minutes.Remove from the oven and cool in the pan before turning out onto a plate.Decorate with the Whispers and flowers (if you wish) and serve with vanilla ice cream.Serves 6-8..
