James Bond fans were dismayed when Daniel Craig announced that he had turned down a R150-million offer from MGM because he no longer wants to play the famous role.

Naturally, this got tongues wagging about who the next Bond would be. Favoured were Tom Hiddleston, Clive Owen, John Boyega, Aidan Turner, Idris Elba, and Damian Lewis.

However, one of the preferred candidates has something a bit different to offer. She’s a woman.

People on social media seemed mad for the idea. Would she have to be called Jane Bond?

Gillian Anderson set fans’ hearts racing when she responded that she was “up for the role”.

Opinion about a female Bond has been mixed. Some have said it will ruin the character, whereas others have welcomed the idea.

Pierce Brosnan, who played Bond four times, didn’t seem keen on the idea of a female 007.

“Anything is possible but I think he’ll be male and he’ll be white. There’s wonderful black actors out there who could be James Bond, and there’s no reason why you cannot have a black James Bond.

“But a female James Bond, no. I think it has to be a male. James Bond is a guy, he’s all male.”

Craig had other ideas, however.

He told Bustle: “Sure, yeah, definitely. I think a female Bond it’s a great idea. “If it works it works.”
