Rabies kills jackals in Joburg

Two wild jackals have died from rabies in Muldersdrift, north of Johannesburg. National Institute for Communicable Diseases deputy director Lucille Blumberg said one jackal acted tame as a result of the rabies and entered a Muldersdrift hotel. The person who touched it was given preventative treatment in time and is fine.Rabies has no cure and will kill people if they are not vaccinated and treated soon after exposure.Blumberg said all Muldersdrift residents needed to vaccinate their cats and dogs against rabies.By law pet owners have to vaccinate dogs against rabies every three years...
