R145-million collected since e-toll discount

The SA National Roads Agency has collected nearly R145-million since offering a 60% discount to those who have not been paying their e-toll accounts in Gauteng. But Sanral cannot divulge how many motorists took up the offer."We are still calculating and collating information. This will take time to be accurate," said Sanral spokesman Vusi Mona.The agency said more than 2.7million Gauteng road users had not made a single payment. Court summonses had been issued to 5,500 motorists and 800 businesses.Mona said the agency would continue to ask road users to do the right thing. In a parliamentary reply two weeks ago, the Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters said about 130,000 motorists in Gauteng had taken up the 60% discount offer.Sanral could not confirm the number. ..
