Soyinka: Where is our negritude?

Nigerian-born academic and one of the continent's most prominent literary figures, Professor Wole Soyinka, gave a talk in celebration of Africa Day at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani last night, focusing on "negritude" - defined as the self-affirmation of black people. "What exactly is being black? What is the being of blackness?" Soyinka asked.The Nobel prize winner made reference to atrocities that have occurred on the continent recently - the abduction of 200 girls by Boko Haram, the Rwandan genocide, and scourge of xenophobia.He asked : "Where is negritude in all of this?" ..
