New perceptions: Tour 2.0 takes tourists into the hearts of African communities

01 June 2016 - 09:52 By Eugene Yiga

Daniel Adidwa, founder and CEO of the Tour 2.0, believes that growth of cultural and community tourism benefits tourists, trade and our communities. Eugene Yiga spoke to him about Tour 2.0 and what it brings to the table:What is Tour 2.0?We're a company that creates new perceptions about Africa by exposing our clients to local ambassadors across various communities in South Africa so they can get an authentic experience of our provinces, the country and the continent's cultural diversity.Where do you operate? We are nationwide. We have around 42 individual community ambassadors across South Africa. How do you find your ambassadors? The best way to find local people is to go into a community and speak to the elders. They know who the best person to approach is when it comes to bringing tourists into a community. What's your approach to the experiences you offer?Let's say you're going to an authentic dinner in a four-room home. A group of 30 can't do that on one tour. So we like the small approach. That way people are able to get the best real experience instead of a manufactured one. What's your focus? Our service is diverse. At the moment it has more of a city and less of a rural focus. When it comes to something like walking with the Bushmen, we're still finding the right local guide who'll be able to offer the authentic experience. How popular are the tours? Our business is growing, especially with international travellers. They want to live with you, find out how you eat, etc, so they're able to go home, say that they stayed with a particular community and this is what it's like. That makes it more interesting.Learn more at www.tour2-0.com...
