Radisson Blu coming to Umhlanga

International hotel chain Radisson Blu's foray into Durban will bring with it a wealth of foreign tourists. This is according to tycoon Vivian Reddy, who announced yesterday that his lavish R700-million hotel in the heart of Umhlanga would be managed by the luxury hotel chain.The hotel is part of the R3.8-billion Oceans Umhlanga development, which includes 460 high-rise apartments and a 33000²m luxury-goods shopping mall set to rival Sandton City and the V&A Waterfront mall with top-end stores like Burberry, Versace, Armani and Paul Smith.Construction is due to be completed by November 2018."It took some intensive negotiations to bring Radisson Blu to Durban," said Reddy. "We were in negotiations with some leading hotel groups from India, Dubai and Europe."He also engaged Indian five-star hotel chains like Oberoi Hotels and Resorts, as well as The Taj group.Radisson Blu, which is owned by a Chinese conglomerate, already has a presence in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth."This is a coup, as Durban will add another five-star hotel to its portfolio," said Reddy.He said he believed the hotel would attract more foreign tourists to Durban.Apartments are priced from R1.5-million to R60-million for a luxury penthouse, which comes with an infinity pool and helipad...
