Coins to honour our geniuses

South African Mint has launched two coins in the first batch of its series honouring South African innovators.The first pays homage to the concrete marvels of dolos, which engineer Eric Merrifield created to protect harbour walls from the erosive force of ocean waves.Its unique design has been crafted onto a R2 Crown sterling silver coin and a 2½c tickey.The reverse side of the R2 Crown is a depiction of people on a harbour wall protected by a stack of dolosse.Roux revealed a second coin in the series will be launched next year to honour the 50th anniversary of Chris Barnard's first heart transplant. ..
