Local kitchen passes test of the world's best

SA's Luke Dale-Roberts of The Test Kitchen in Woodstock, Cape Town, continued on an upward trajectory at the World's 50 Best Restaurant awards, from No28 last year to No22 this year - the only African restaurant on the list. The announcement was made on Monday at Cipriani Wall Street in New York, as the city welcomed its first World's 50 Best Restaurant awards, after the competition's 14-year stint in London.Forty-seven of the 50 restaurant chefs, representing 23 countries, attended the ceremony.Osteria Francescana ascended to the top of the annual ranking for its inventive twist on traditional Italian dishes.The restaurant, which is in Modena, Italy, and was runner-up last year, switched the top spot with last year's winner, El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain. ..
