Boks back Lions heroes
Two of the Lions stars who last week helped turn the Springboks from a stuttering team into a slick, winning one have been rewarded with starting places in tomorrow's deciding Test match against Ireland in Port Elizabeth. And another Lions man who has been on the fringes of selection gets closer to making it onto the pitch. Flanker Jaco Kriel will be on the bench at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.Kriel's teammates Warren Whiteley and Ruan Combrinck, who both made a sensational impact last week when they came on as replacements, will be in the game from the start tomorrow.Whiteley replaces Duane Vermeulen at No8 and Combrinck substitutes wing Lwazi Mvovo, who will be on the bench.Vermeulen, who has a shoulder injury, is out of the squad.The series is locked at 1-1 and the pressure will be on the Boks to deliver a victory in front of an expected capacity 43000 crowd.An ankle injury has ruled out prop Trevor Nyakane and his place among the reserves is taken by the uncapped Steven Kitshoff.Coach Allister Coetzee said Kriel had been close to selection before now.
