Teen in hospital after Kruger hyena attack

A hyena attacked a teenager at Kruger National Park's Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp on Sunday.SANParks acting head of communications William Mabasa said the 15-year-old boy was asleep with his parents in a tent when the hyena entered the camp at about 4.30am and attacked him."He was immediately rushed to a clinic in Nelspruit," Mabasa said.Animal behaviourist Kevin Richardson said hyenas in the Kruger Park are notorious for frequenting the rest camp sites because people feed them."Hyenas are smart and see camp sites as sources of food. They explore with their teeth and it was testing the waters."The boy reacted and the hyena ran off," said Richardson.- Additional reporting by Shenaaz Jamal..
