Residents just can't get any satisfaction

As South Africa readies itself for the local government elections in August, the Gauteng Quality of Life Survey shows satisfaction with local government has dropped. The Gauteng City Region Observatory released its two surveys yesterday at the University of Johannesburg.The research, conducted every two years, sampled 30000 respondents and is the largest social attitudes survey in the province.Overall, only 34% of respondents were satisfied with the performance of local government generally.Randfontein was named the city with the highest quality of life in Gauteng, based on its municipality.The 2015 data positioned Randfontein with the highest score of 6.38, followed by Mogale City scoring 6.28, and the City of Johannesburg with 6.27.While key services such as water, waste, health and education have shown an increase in satisfaction, satisfaction with electricity has declined from 78% in 2013 to 72% last year, reflecting the impact of load-shedding.The report clearly states that the high levels of satisfaction with services do not translate into high levels of satisfaction with the government.The study found 43% of white people were more satisfied with local government compared with 33% of black people...
