These are the five shocking defeats at the Football World Cup that no one saw coming... 1. 1990 World Cup: Cameroon 1 Argentina 0Argentina were the strongest football nation in the world and world champions. They also had superstar Diego Maradona.Cameroon were in only their second World Cup.Despite being down to 10 men when André Kana-Biyik was sent off in the 54th minute, Cameroon remained resilient and got a goal in the 67th minute from the head of François Omam-Biyik to give Cameroon a 1-0 victory and became the first African team to reach the World Cup quarterfinals.2. 2002 World Cup: Senegal 1 France 0The defending World Cup and European champions were in their prime and ready to win a second straight World Cup. But in the first match a goal from Papa Bouba Diop in the 30th minute helped Senegal stun the world. It was the only real chance Senegal got throughout the match, but it was all that it took to begin their run to the quarterfinals.3. 1966 World Cup: North Korea 1 Italy 0North Korea were the only team from Africa and Asia to qualify and supreme leader Kim Il-sung told the players: "As the representatives of the Africa and Asian region, as coloured people, I urge you to win one or two matches." And what a match North Korea did win, as they faced an Italian side that were a major contender to win the World Cup. The North Koreans got the goal from Pak Doo-Ik, which was enough to make it to the quarter-finals, in which they lost 5-3 to Portugal. It remains the only World Cup win by North Korea, who also featured in the 2010 tournament.4. 1950 World Cup: US 1 England 0Many expected the US to be blown away because England were considered the best team in the world. The odds on the US winning were 500-1 but they scored in the 38th minute through Joe Gaetjens. England continued to attack but US goalkeeper Frank Borghi was fantastic. England failed to reach the play-offs and the US did not win another World Cup match until 1994. Uruguay won the tournament.5. 1954 World Cup: West Germany 3 Hungary 2Hungary were then the strongest football nation in the world. They beat West Germany, still building a side after World War 2, 8-3 in the group stage.
