Turbine art fair: hang out with SA's hottest young artists

The Turbine Art Fair runs from Friday to Sunday this week at the Turbine Hall in Newtown. Contemporary art priced below R40000 will be exhibited for sale. Visitors will also be able to take part in the free, daily interactive talks programme.Don't miss Patrice Deparpe, director of the Musée Matisse, in conversation with Professor Federico Freschi, executive dean at the University of Johannesburg's faculty of art, design and architecture. The co-curators of the first solo Matisse exhibition in Africa talk about the works on show at Standard Bank Gallery. 1.30pm-2.30pm Saturday.Hlengiwe Vilakati, Mlungisi Kongisa, Blessing Ngobeni and Zwelethu Machepe - personal stories and anecdotes from up-and-coming artists who are going global. On from 3pm-4pm on Saturday.Art advocate Warren Siebrits will present an in-depth look at the work and life of Walter Battiss on Sunday from 11am-12noon.Another highlight: exhibition inspired by Sarah Biggs's residency on Sylt Island.Art installations curated by Suzie Copperthwaite will be showcased around the venue.TAF will host two exhibitions showcasing SA's newest young artists...
