Shaun Pulfrey was mocked on BBC's Dragons' Den for his 'hair-brained' idea, and his pitch for a detangling hairbrush was unanimously rejected. He has had the last laugh, however, ignoring the rejection, setting out on his own and ending up inventing something worth a sweet £200-million (R4-billion).The Grimsby-born inventor, a professional hair colourist, asked for an £800,000 investment for a 15% share in his company.Peter Jones called the invention "hair-brained". James Caan called it "a waste of time" and Duncan Bannantyne said it made him "want to pull my hair out".Deborah Meaden was particularly scornful, saying it looked like a horse brush. However, it's the Dragons who will be pulling their hair when they hear that they missed out on an extremely lucrative opportunity - and that the hairbrushes are a hit.The inventor said he was not disappointed about not getting the money because "I can get that from a bank"."But I wanted a Dragon to take it to the consumer global market and I didn't feel they heard me out."He now exports the brushes to 60 countries, has won awards and is endorsed by celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Nicole Scherzinger and Cara Delevingne.Pulfrey is now about to sell his invention for £200-million, after receiving firm offers in that ballpark this weekend. This is five times what Meaden is worth. If the Dragons had invested, they would have made around £30-million.It just shows that if you are rejected - even by experts in a field - perseverance sometimes counts. ..
