Surgical thread that can detect post-operative complications and alert doctors on their cellphones could revolutionise patient safety, according to scientists. Researchers have tested "smart" stitching that is able to diagnose infections and inform clinicians in real time. The technology should allow doctors to immediately spot problems that could cause a patient to deteriorate after an operation.A team at Tufts University integrated nano-scale sensors into threads that were dipped in chemical sensing compounds and connected to wireless electronic circuitry. ..
