Mole's a little sheepish about runaway success

02 August 2016 - 08:50 By LEONIE WAGNER

There is a certain level of arrogance that is expected from musicians, but Matthew Mole missed the memo. Despite performances at festivals, the release of his second album and a nationwide tour starting this month he is still surprised by his success. He said: "After I released my first album and people bought tickets to my shows I was shocked.I didn't understand why people were buying tickets to watch me play."But it's amazing; I love it but it's a scary thing to have my own show. It still doesn't make sense that people want to come and watch me."Mole's tour later this month is to introduce locals to his second album, Run .The 24-year-old singer-songwriter entered the industry with a bang when his debut album, The Home we Built, made chart history in July 2013.At the time Mole became the first local artist to enter the iTunes album chart at No 1.While that album came together effortlessly because he had already written the songs, he said his latest work came with added pressure."This time I had an idea of who would want to listen to my album, unlike my first one when I didn't know if people wanted to listen to it," he said."But when I was writing this one there was a bit of pressure because people were expecting a second album."I like that pressure, I believe it helps you grow," he said. With two albums to his name, Mole now has plans to "go as international as possible" and has identified Europe and the UK as hot spots because these markets were "less intimidating"...
