On the Radar: Irishman 'fesses up

Al Pacino and Robert de Niro will team up for the first time with director Martin Scorsese for Scorsese's next film, The Irishman. Based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt, the film is the story of the deathbed confession of Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran, who claimed knowledge about the disappearance and death of Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa. The Irishman is scheduled to start shooting next year for release in 2018.Nate Parker, the director and star of this year's Sundance winner and whispered Oscar frontrunner, The Birth of a Nation, has a cloud hanging over him. Parker, together with his co-writer Jean Celestin, was accused of raping a woman while a student at Penn State University in 1999. The two were found not guilty but Parker only recently discovered that their accuser had committed suicide in 2012. Members of the accuser's family say she suffered from depression after the incident.The Bioscope screens the Jackie Chan classic The Man with the Cracked Fingers tonight at 7.30pm. www.thebioscope.co.za..
