SAPS seek abalone network

Police are investigating whether suspects nabbed in three abalone busts worth R4.5-million are linked. On Monday night police swooped on a house in Rondevlei Park, Mitchells Plain, following a tip off.A search uncovered R2-million worth of abalone and a Belhar man was arrested for illegal possession of the marine species.Two vehicles escorting a large load of abalone from Hermanus to Cape Town tried to force members of the SAPS K9 unit off the road on the N2 in Strand on Thursday last week.A unit vehicle gave chase, stopped the suspects and seized abalone valued at R1-million and a firearm.On Friday the K9 unit and personnel from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries seized 9400 units of abalone worth R1.5-million on an anti-poaching patrol in Gordon's Bay.A 30-year-old man from Hermanus was arrested...
