If you're missing your weekly dose of medieval fantasy since the last season of Game of Thrones ended you can catch up on all things feudal at the Magical, Medieval Fayre this weekend at the Inanda Country Base, Rose Road, Kyalami.

"It is a celebration of all things fantasy and medieval. Think Game of Thrones meets Vikings," says one of the organisers, Meryl Rosenberg, who along with Dayle Mallinson, created the event as a place for friends to dress up in olden-day get-ups, ride horses and shoot arrows.

Expect minstrels, strolling players, stilt walkers, fire dancers, buskers and barons, knights in shining armour, jousters, fair maidens, damsels and, of course, steeds. Hounds, warlocks, wenches, ruffians and rogues will be added to the mix to make it an unforgettable afternoon for the whole family, two-legged and four.

Tickets are available in four types with accordant privileges: Handfasting tickets are R2500 (there are only three available) and include a hand-fasting ceremony personalised for your wedding, engagement, or renewal of vows.

Royal tickets (R650) for the bluest blood include early entrance to the fair, allowing holders to have their pick of the traders' stalls. They also get a "fast pass" buff allowing them to the front of all queues. Entrance to the medieval spit banquet with craft or raspberry beer and entertainment, a shot of Eoin's Tankard Mead, three arrow shots with The Troll Bow Project Archery, a unicorn ride and three free tomatoes for the vegetable justice game are included. Royal ticket holders are also encouraged to fight a knight with Medieval Fight Club and have the right to be mildly discourteous to everyone.

Noble tickets (R300) include a turkey leg - smoked, marinated and cooked over an open fire from Food Fellas - and the right to be mildly discourteous to commoners.

Commoner tickets are R80 at the gate. Kids under 12 and pets on leashes free.

  • The fair runs from 12-10pm this Saturday. Book online at quicket.co.za or see meetup.com
