A meat supplier that used a cartoon of a chicken's backside on its trucks alongside the message "Vegetarian? Stop cluckin' around", has apologised after vegans complained."We apologise for any offence caused by the branding seen on some of our trucks," Barbeque Rib Manufacturers of Johannesburg said on its Facebook page. "Our branding was never meant to be offensive but rather tongue-in-cheek."Two vegans, Colleen Mollentze of Johannesburg and Joanne Fairbrother of Cape Town, complained to the Advertising Standards Authority about the drawing. In its finding, the ASA said the BRM Brands trucks featured "an animated depiction of a chicken with its pants down, showing its rear end, complete with tail feathers in the air and exposed sphincter".Mollentze and Fairbrother, who are members of the Vegan Society of SA, said the drawing was "clearly aimed at offending vegetarians", adding: "Chickens are one of the most abused factory farmed animals in South Africa."The portrayal of a chicken showing its rear end to vegetarians while supposedly endorsing this product is nothing less than insulting."Mollentze also pointed out that if a similar ad had been used to promote pork to Muslims or Jews, "it would not have seen the light of day".BRM told the ASA it was in the process of replacing the livery on its trucks and would not use the ad again. The authority gave the company until September 15 to scrap the ad...
