Nuke probe: 'We will co-operate'

Minister of Energy Tina Joemat-Pettersson has undertaken to comply fully with interventions by the national Treasury after red flags were raised regarding the first government contract in the nuclear-build programme. "The department will fully co-operate with the national Treasury to verify compliance with supply chain management norms and standards."She said this would be done as soon as the Treasury had concluded its processes.At issue is the R171-million contract for "the procurement of the nuclear-build programme management system" awarded to Shantan Reddy, son of President Jacob Zuma's friend Vivian Reddy.The Mail & Guardian reported on Friday that Central Lake Trading 149, with Reddy as sole director, had won the bid. The deal remains mired in controversy after it was included in a obscure tender advertised in the Free State.This deviation from the standard procedure will be investigated by the country's chief procurement officer Kenneth Brown. ..
