Men's trends: Suited-up and dapper for 2017

Last Saturday SA Fashion Week closed its Autumn/Winter 2017 collection with menswear shows. Rea Khoabane spoke to the designers behind the labels PALSE, Presidential Shirt and Tailor Me about their latest designs.PALSEDesigner Paledi Segapo called his collection Brave Heart.Inspiration?Inferences from my recent trip to Hong Kong.Fabrics?Egyptian cotton, lace, 100% wool suiting and melton - wool woven in a twill form.What's new?PALSE has always been known as a man's brand, but in 2014 I introduced a women's collection. Now there's an element of gender neutrality in my designs - some of our men's shirts have become dresses.PRESIDENTIALDesigner Pietro Giannuzzia called the collection African Haute Couture and added a women's range called Presidential Queen.Surprise look?We're best known for our Madiba shirts, but this season we showed an ostrich leather biker jacket lined in handpainted silk worn with African leaf print pants.Fabric?Gold, handpainted fabric and colour block kaftans worn with printed pants complemented by Masai blankets lined in gold. On other outfits we embellished beadwork.The ladies collection consists of raw silk dashiki print evening gowns and silk kaftan slit dresses embellished with sequins.TAILOR MECreative director at Tailor Me Celeste Smith wanted to create a collection for the everyday gentleman.Fabric?One hundred percent wool is the fabric that we offer to our existing clientele.Inspiration?The collection was inspired by the everyday man. We use the finest materials and impeccable craftsmanship, and the result is a combination of unrelenting quality and individual style...
