Hlaudi Motsoeneng has been dubbed the "Robert Mugabe of the SABC", Julius Malema is in Nigeria to lead a "pay back the airtime" rally and Donald Trump schools Hillary Clinton on the value of his hair. These would be the news headlines if Comedy Central had its way. This week the television channel launched a new satirical news programme, Comedy Central News, hosted by comedian Sne Dladla.News clips from press conferences from across the world including South Africa are used with voiceovers to present the news that didn't happen. The show is structured in a similar way to the evening news, with various segments including entertainment, sport, business and world news. This week Dladla focused on SABC group executive of corporate affairs Hlaudi Motsoeneng, Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Springboks and US presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.Dladla said: "We're integrating lies with truth to entice people to enjoy the truth. News is usually sad, but we need to know what's happening. Comedy allows us to laugh at serious things."The first episode is a mash-up of US satirical shows such as The Daily Showwith Trevor Noah and Saturday Night Live. The formats might be familiar, but the content isn't nearly as hard-hitting or thought-provoking as international offerings, or the now-cancelled Late Night News with Loyiso Gola. But what the show may lack in hard punches it makes up for with funny one-liners."As the show continues, we'll come out guns blazing, pushing boundaries and getting straight to the point with quick jokes."It's difficult to contextualise in 30 minutes, but I hope people will go and find out more about what's going on," Dladla said.Comedy Central Africa vice-president Evert van der Veer, said Comedy Central News was the channel's first locally produced comedy show and described it as an "antidote to the real news for people who want to escape from the daily grind of current affairs and grim headlines".Dladla is the front man and he also does the voices of Motsoeneng, DA leader Mmusi Maimane, EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu and is still mastering his Barack Obama impersonation.Comedy Central News is broadcast on Comedy Central on Mondays at 9pm...
