Bar code: Posh spot is intoxicating

Gone are the days when you could sidle up to a bar and ask for a beer - nowadays it's about what kind of artisanal ingredients you can find swirling around in your beverage. Once you become accustomed to this fact, you'll realise that The Landmark bar is a treasure. Yes, it's located in soccer mom city - Bryanston - but that doesn't stop it from being a purveyor of all types of delightful drinks that, despite their expense, will leave you in a general state of euphoria. The drinks menu is slightly shorter than the grocery list for a six-person family - not a bad thing, but the cocktails cost the earth or at least a fair chunk of it. If you're going on a date, expect to shell out at least R500 if you happen to be thirsty. If you decide to eat, either at The adjacent Café Del Sol or at The Landmark itself (their pizza puts all others to shame), expect that bill to double.Bryanston Shopping Centre, corner William Nicol Drive & Ballyclare Drive, 011-463-5081 THE LOWDOWNWho to bring?Anyone whose pants you're trying to slip into. When to go?Either when the sun is shining or when you know (but don't care) that your wife is looking for you.How much?If your liver is serious, then at least R700, otherwise R450 to R500 may do the trick. What to drink? An Astoria, it's like liquid Viagra. What to wear?A beard, everyone there has one.Don't missThe exquisite glasswear - comment on it (make sure you know the official name of the glass in question) and you'll be one step closer to getting into those pants...
