Bib and tucker: One up for the smart guys

Mirror, mirror on the wall, which of my suits fits best of all? This was a question most of those at the GQ Best Dressed Men awards grappled with earlier this week. Chaps of all shapes and sizes came decked out in every imaginable iteration of James Bond - from corporate Bond to Maboneng Bond to hip-hop Bond. Everyone wearing a suit seemed determined to carve out his own little place in the sun.In the end only 10 blazer-and-pants aficionados could claim ultimate bragging rights. Among them were Generations actor Vuyo Dabula, businessmen Hussain van Roos and Bradley Maseko, lawyer and former Come Dine with Me contestant Gregg Hammond and recording artist Cassper Nyovest.GQKICK-ASS: Businessman Hussain van Roos wears Ben Sherman. Image: GQAll of the winning looks seemed confined within easily marketable boundaries. Each winner looked great without deviating too far from the standard imagery.As a result they all blended into one another like the same song, remixed with minor key changes. That said, most men would donate a testicle to be able to wear a bow tie as well as finalist Linda Makhanya who is a menswear designer.RED, SET, GO: Muso Cassper Nyovest loves his Rolex. Image: GQAs an exercise in individual expression the awards may not have struck the chords they had hoped for - but that is because suits don't lend themselves to boundless creativity.However, GQ's best-dressed men were still a suave demonstration of how sexy a man can look when he puts some effort into it. They're also a good indication of what to wear when trying to net a Bond girl...
