Online radio station The Eye has questioned the Department of Home Affairs' decision to kick out one of its latest recruits, US hip-hop artist Yasiin Bey. Bey, aka Mos Def, left South Africa on Tuesday after being declared "undesirable" for contravening the Immigration Act.Bey recently debuted a show on The Eye and, asked if Bey would continue his show from the US, station co-founder Jon Savage said: "The Eye is a global platform that gives voice to interesting opinions and viewpoints from anywhere."I'd like to know why our government, who claim to want to grow the economy, invite tourism and foreign investment, are not making it easier for the Yasiins of the world to promote and celebrate beautiful things in Africa."Ian Bredenkamp, for the station, said it was not clear if Bey would continue on The Eye.Bey was arrested in January after he attempted to leave South Africa using a "world passport" not recognised by local authorities.Bey apologised and the department dropped charges but still deported the rapper. - TMG Digital..
