South African audiences will get a glimpse of life inside Palestine's occupied territories with the screening of an award-winning documentary by Emad Burnat.

The film, 5 Broken Cameras, will be screened across the country during the Palestinian Film Tour, which began in Cape Town this week.

It won a 2012 Sundance Film Festival award, the Golden Apricot at the 2012 Yerevan International Film Festival for Best Documentary, and an International Emmy Award in 2013.

Burnat will be at the screenings to host discussions with audiences.

The 94-minute documentary shows protests in Bil'in, a Palestinian West Bank village affected by the Israeli barrier wall, and the village's resistance to the encroachment of Israeli settlements.

Muhammed Desai, of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, said: "We are hosting this film tour to highlight the daily humiliation and suffering the Palestinian people face. It shows the capacity of humans to be so oppressive on the one hand and so kind on the other."

The film tour coincides with the UN's International Day of Solidarity with Palestine.
