In a warning to gangsters, police said they would be cracking down on the practice.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker said they would intensify operations to stop funeral gun salutes.

"We receive a lot of complaints from people living next to cemeteries."

He said they would increase security at specific funerals.

"Funerals will be profiled and stricter measures implemented."
