Vodacom gets the drop on rival

A complaint about its biggest rival has exploded in MTN's face.

Evidence to the advertising watchdog showed that the cellphone giant's network drops three times as many calls as Vodacom.

The data emerged when the Advertising Standards Authority investigated an MTN complaint about Vodacom ads claiming it was "SA's best network with the least dropped calls."

MTN gave the Advertising Standards Authority statistics which it claimed showed the opposite.

But Vodacom responded with what the watchdog said was better data and the complaint was thrown out.
