A stiff lower back will probably prevent rising sprint star Gift Leotlela from competing in anything other than the 200m at the SA championships in Potchefstroom this weekend.

Leotlela, a 200m silver medallist at the world junior championships last year, beat Wayde van Niekerk over 100m last month.

However, the 100m still amounts to a dream race, with Van Niekerk, Akani Simbine, defending champion Henricho Bruintjies, Thando Roto, Anaso Jobodwana and Simon Magakwe slugging it out tomorrow.

Most of them will return the next day to challenge SA 200m title-holder Clarence Munyai, 19.
