Four Wits University students were arrested on Monday for disobeying a court order that prohibits them from disrupting the academic programme.
Wits was awarded the interdict by the Johannesburg High Court in April last year during the #FeesMustFall protests.
A number of students were arrested last year.
On Monday, about 150 students protested at Wits' Parktown campus, demanding better accommodation. They stormed a lecture room, disrupting teaching, and attempted to block the entrances to the campus.
One student was arrested and suspended from taking part in academic activities on Monday and taken to Hillbrow police station. Three more were arrested yesterday when they tried to continue protesting.
Wits said students who broke the rules, violated the rights of others or disrupted university activities would be suspended immediately.
Wits spokesman Shirona Patel said that, after receiving a memorandum of demands from students, the university's senior managers met representatives of the Education Students' Council on Monday.
Patel said the student representatives refused to explore the issues raised in the memorandum and "instead insisted that the management address all protesting students and the talks broke down".
She said management was not willing to speak to all the protesting students because when they had done so previously they had been insulted, threatened and humiliated.
Patel said the academic programme had resumed but security had been strengthened.
She said management had agreed to address all students later this week.
A spokesman for the Student Representative Council was not available for comment.
