Whisky, wine and dose of Trump among the gifts declared in Gauteng legislature

Six bottles of wine, two whisky bottles, a R20,000 golf voucher and a book on US President Donald Trump were among the gifts declared in the Gauteng legislature in the past financial year.

The Office of the Integrity Commissioner has compiled the members' register of interests for 2016-2017 and has made it available for inspection.

Among the gifts listed for Gauteng Premier David Makhura are a Proline Android tablet (value unknown) from the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, three shirts from a Mr Eroglu valued at R600, a Balmain pen, two bottles of wine, a crystal wine decanter and a golf voucher.

Finance MEC Barbara Creecy disclosed she has two houses and no other income- bearing assets. She was given two bottles of wine, a gift hamper and a book on Trump.

Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi stated he held directorships in the PLesufi Education Foundation and Moroka Swallows.

Among the gifts he received were two Huawei mobile phones valued at about R13,000, a Glenfiddich whisky bottle valued at R5,000 and football match tickets to various PSL games.

Human Settlements MEC Paul Mashatile only listed a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label bottle valued at R2,000 that he received from a friend.

Community safety MEC Faith Mazibuko said she received two bottles of champagne, value unknown, from the Vaal Scottish Heritage and Culture.

Transport MEC Ismail Vadi listed a number of gifts he received, including books, a desk ornament and frames.

Gauteng legislature speaker Ntombi Mekgwe listed a Nigerian traditional cloth valued at $15 (about R202), a fawn handbag and a surprise braai for her birthday.

Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa listed a ceramic bowl and two bottles of wine.

The DA's Nkhumeni Ramulifho listed tickets to football matches, a birthday dinner valued at R10,000 from DA Johannesburg regional staff and cigars worth about R1200 from "MEC Mamabolo".
