My Kind of Holiday: Brett Shuttleworth
Where did you spend your last holiday?
What was the best thing you did while there?
I went to the Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan. It is the best party I have experienced anywhere to date - and I have partied all over the world.
Your favourite city abroad and why?
New York, particularly Manhattan. It's an intriguing city that never sleeps and I love to watch people from all walks of life go by.
What was your best holiday ever?
Island-hopping on a yacht with my family in Greece.
Have you had any embarrassing moments as a traveller?
I was once approached to join the mile-high club, but I gracefully declined.
What is the best thing you have been given on holiday . or pinched from a hotel?
My trip to Thailand. A friend asked me to coach him and, in return, he paid for my holiday.
Your favourite South African destination and why?
My home - The Smiling Soul retreat in the Drakensberg.
Your favourite restaurant, anywhere?
La Perla in Cape Town. The crayfish thermidor is amazing.
What is the most exotic dish you have ever eaten on holiday?
Sheep's brains in a side-street that turns into a restaurant at night in Mumbai. It's called Bademiya and is behind the Leopold Café. Very cool atmosphere and delicious food.
One place you want to see before you die?
The Amazon rainforest
What do you avoid on holiday?
Itineraries. I prefer to be a spontaneous, relaxing rebel. I enjoy the experience of tasting different cultures and scenery. I enjoy being taken out of my comfort zone.
What's your best piece of travel advice?
Let go and enjoy the ride. Always have a spare credit card locked in the safe. And always arrange for several wake-up calls to avoid missing your flights.
Shuttleworth will be presenting "Make your soul smile" at Emperors Palace on May 12.
